The Negroni was created in 1919 in the Casoni bar in Florence, by Count Camillo Negroni.
The Count did not like the soda added to dilute the Americano, the most popular drink at the time, and asked the bartender Fosco Scarselli to replace it with gin, the English spirit that Camillo knew well given his frequent trips to London.
For some time, the new cocktail, which was very successful, was called “the Americano, Count Negroni’s way” until arriving at its current name: “the Negroni”.
A classic aperitif with a dry and bitter taste and an unmistakeable dark orange colour, it can also be sipped after dinner during an evening with friends, served in a tumbler glass.
